Junior Prom

I have terribly neglected my poor little blog this month - but with good reason! It's been very hectic in our household lately with my daughter's art show (I'll post pictures next entry), lots of yard and house work, vacation planning and most importantly...my daughter's junior prom!

They changed the venue for prom this year to a much larger hotel, which seemed to work out better. My daughter and her boyfriend came home with lots of 'swag', they said the food was great and there was plenty of room to move around, socialize and dance.

Her school also hosts an After Prom Party (a wonderful alternative to teenagers getting into trouble after prom is over). After Prom begins one hour after prom ends, giving the kids enough time to come home and change, and lasts until 3am. It's held in the school gym and always has a theme, games, prizes, contests and more. The kids love it and the parents are thankful for it. :-)

This is her second prom, as she attended her boyfriend's senior prom last year, so I have one more year of buying the dress, shoes, matching nail polish, making last minute alterations, and so on. Believe me when I tell you that 3 proms is plenty and I'll be more than ready to retire as a 'prom mom' when it's over.

Updates

Just wanted to give an update because I've been M.I.A. on my blog lately.

I've been very busy revamping all the titles, tags and descriptions in my Etsy shop to conform with the new SEO guidelines. It's not really the way I prefer to spend my time, but it had to be done.

I've also picked up a few new wholesale accounts, which I'm very excited about! They've been keeping me busy during this slow Etsy spring.

In addition, I've been squeezing in some time to create new bridal jewelry and summer accessories that I can't wait to debut in my shop. They'll be coming soon, so keep an eye out!

On the home front, prom is coming! We picked up my daughter's gown this week for her Junior Prom. It's a gorgeous royal blue with sequin designs. I'll definitely post the pics next month.

Also, the weather's been beautiful so we've been washing down the decks, cleaning off the patio furniture, mowing the lawn...all the fun stuff that comes with nice weather. :D

I'll post again soon. Hope you all take care and have a wonderful week!

Twilight New Moon

I am embarassed to admit that I was one of the crazy people in line at midnight Saturday to get one of the first copies of the Twilight New Moon dvd. In my defense, my 16 year old daughter (pictured) is a die-hard fan, so I was really just the chaperone/chauffer.

When she was younger we used to stand in line at midnight for Harry Potter book releases, so we've become quite the professional midnight shoppers.

I am happy to announce that after one hour of standing, listening to people complain about everything from the line to the fact that they didn't offer refreshments and running in to everyone from my daughter's youth pastor to one of her teachers, we became the proud owners of the special fan edition of Twilight New Moon and bonus cd.

Then we got home and our dvd player broke. Guess what I did on Sunday?

Etsy Front Page

Easter's right around the corner, and Etsy is getting ready with this great front page (which also happens to feature my Pretty Pastel Hairpin Set)!

Unfortunately, my children are too old now for all the fun things we used to do for Easter. :( Spoon races, Easter egg hunts and pictures with the Easter bunny (who always managed to show up at our parties, that busy bunny). One year we had the kids and all their cousins rolling Easter eggs up a hill in our front yard with their noses to win prizes! You've heard of "What would you do for a Klondike bar?". You'd be amazed what children will do for toys from the Dollar Store and bragging rights. Aaahh, those were the days...

College Already?

I spent last Saturday at the PA College of Art & Design Open House in Lancaster, PA with my daughter, Maddie. I CANNOT BELIEVE she's in 11th grade, driving and looking at colleges already! I know I say this way too often, but where does the time go? And how does she keep getting older, but I don't? LOL, okay I made that part up. :D

Anyway, I wanted to share the experience with everyone. We had a great time, it's a terrific school and I think her mind is set on this college. We've looked at others, but this seems to be the one. We spent the day checking out the city. We went to galleries, had lunch and took lots of silly pictures.

Most of the professors at the school are also working artists and the students and professors are all very supportive of each other's work and success. My daughter was able to have her portfolio reviewed by one of the professors, which gave her a great head start for next year.

I have to admit, both the city and the school seem like the perfect fit for her but I'm still sad that we're already thinking about an empty nest. :(
